680 Folsom Street Repositioning
San Francisco, CA
Doing more with less doesn't have to come at the expense of experience. To attract and retain premier tenants while employing a cost-conscious design strategy, the reimagined lobby of 680 Folsom Street strategically repurposes existing materials, the welcome desk and art, then layers in new experiences through mesh ceiling elements, dynamic lighting, inviting furniture and amenities.
Located in San Francisco’s SOMA neighborhood, the renewed lobby and event space serves as a “lounge” for prime tenants, locals, and even visitors attending nearby conferences. Curved, low-cost, nature-inspired forms and materials—such as copper mesh ceiling installations, coffee bar, glass pendant lights, rounded furniture and lush, green plants—create an elegant focal point within a landmark mid-century building.
Features
The design team worked closely with the client to deliver a sophisticated, sustainable and budget-friendly environment. For instance, the elegant granite floor with radiant heating, a steel-mounted artwork, reception desk, and folded wood ceiling that includes strip lights, were all kept in place.
