Fast Company's Innovation by Design Awards Honors the Reimagined White House Tour
An iconic symbol of democracy, the White House has welcomed visitors for more than 60 years. To honor its past while embracing its future, NBBJ’s New York experience design studio, ESI, partnered with Former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and A+E Global Media to reimagine the White House tour with inclusive, multisensory features that enliven its historic spaces for the digital age. Named a Fast Company Innovation by Design Award Finalist in the Experience Design category, the reinvented tour enhances accessibility and engagement through interactive media, videos, reader rails and signage that highlight memorable events and moments in White House history.
The tour allows visitors to step into the Diplomatic Reception Room for the first time, where visitors can listen to FDR’s fireside chats recorded in the room on a replica of a 1939 Philco radio. Other key features include a "grand frame” in the entry hall that showcases rotating behind-the-scenes images of presidents and first ladies, while a living timeline with three customizable tour modes spotlights the rich visual history of the White House.
