GENESIS 640 Memorial Drive
Cambridge, MA
Across the world, more than 4,500 life sciences companies are created each year. As they grow beyond the start-up phase, many require additional office and lab space, but also want to retain the free-flowing connection to peer organizations that defined their earliest years in business. The repositioning of GENESIS 640 Memorial Drive—an historic 1920s building that once housed an assembly line for the Ford Model T—brings together mid-sized science companies through an array of amenities that support the exchange of ideas, research and innovation.
To transform this landmark building, the design reimagines dated amenity spaces on the first floor into curated destinations that bring scientists together. Tenants and guests are welcomed into a daylight filled lobby with a coffee bar, fireplace lounge, gym, wellness suite and bike storage. Throughout, bright metals nod to the building's historic past to demarcate zones for collaboration, while tambour wood and reeded glass reference dynamic skirt pleats from period fashion.
Features
To create a hospitality-like vibe, lounge settings with soft seating—from the check-in area to meeting spaces available by reservation for all tenants—offers a relaxed alternative to the labs located on the floors above.
