Delta LGA Terminal C Media Experience
New York, NY
Travel broadens horizons, but weaving through security lines and waiting at baggage claim often dulls the excitement of the journey. At Delta’s Terminal C at LaGuardia Airport, moments of waiting become moments of anticipation thanks to interactive media experiences that send travelers to new destinations and welcome them to New York through iconic art, media and graphics celebrating the spirit of travel.
NBBJ's experience design studio, ESI, created an integrated art, media and graphics program that transforms the terminal into a destination in itself. Inspired by the magic of arrivals and departures, the design captures the majesty of flight while celebrating New York’s distinctive energy. In the departures hall, a bespoke digital mural shifts in real time, displaying imagery inspired by departing flights—tessellations of palm trees for Palm Beach, or layered vistas of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. At baggage claim, responsive media reveals scenes of authentic New York life, from bustling sidewalks to iconic yellow taxis, surprising and delighting travelers as they collect their bags.
Features
In the departures hall, a large-scale media canvas consisting of 34 vertical columns of high-resolution LEDs evokes the energy of takeoff with photographic animations that shift to match each departing flight’s destination. Titled Departing Impressions, the installation can also be programmed to showcase diverse media content such as seasonal imagery and custom-produced videos.
