Bloomberg: A Prototype for Behavioral Health Facilities, Ohana's Nature- and Light-Filled Design Helps Promote Healing
Part of a new wave of projects in psychiatric design, Montage Health’s Ohana Center for Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health in Monterey, CA, embraces its idyllic setting to prioritize behavioral health care through access to nature, natural light and choice for the children and adolescents it serves.
Featured in Bloomberg, Ohana’s design promotes healing through natural light, outdoor access and choice for the children it serves. Native vegetation and a historic oak tree as well as gardens and courtyards extend treatment to the outdoors, and the building’s serpentine form, mass timber structure and stunning views contribute to Ohana’s visual openness.
"We can embrace the trees, and embrace the view, and layer the experience from public to private,” says NBBJ Design Partner Jonathan Ward of the project.
