From Office Building to Global Training Center: New Video Shares the Story Behind Alaska Airlines’ “Project Borealis”
As organizations look to reduce costs, minimize waste and accelerate project delivery, adaptive reuse emerges as a powerful alternative to new construction. By reimagining existing buildings, organizations can unlock significant operational, financial and environmental benefits while creating spaces that are tailored to their future needs.
That’s the case with “Project Borealis,” Alaska Airlines’ new global training center outside of Seattle, WA. By reusing much of the building's existing structure, systems and materials, NBBJ and Alaska transformed a dated 1990s-era office building into a hospitality-driven Global Training Center that supports learning, connection and future growth.
In this new video, Alaska Airlines’ Teri Sato and Cassie Valkenaar discuss how adaptive reuse helped create a space that reflects the company's values of safety, integrity, hospitality and performance—and why the project is making a lasting impact on the people who train and work there every day.
