Rapid 5 Vision Plan
Columbus, OH
Water quality in the Scioto River has declined over the years, adversely affecting adjacent communities and native wildlife. The Rapid 5 plan seizes the opportunity to renew the Scioto River and the lands alongside it, celebrating its history, culture, and geography through improved water quality and management, reallocation of resources, and thoughtful planning.
Building on past and recent investments and emerging opportunities, the plan identifies a series of opportunity districts including an Arts and Adventure Park District and an Eco-Tech District. Each district includes a series of design interventions from trails, parklets and overlooks to adventure parks, filtration islands and wetland restoration.
Features
In the Arts and Adventure Park District, a proposed ecological building working in conjunction with a performative landscape is intended to serve as a world-class outdoor music venue and sculpture park while also mitigating flooding, preserving native ecology and improving water quality while hosting exciting programming and creating memorable experiences.
