Ice Rink Concept Featured In The Daily Mail Would Return Frost Fairs To London
More than 200 years ago, Londoners were able to host “frost fairs” when the River Thames froze in winter. Now NBBJ London is proposing to bring this winter wonder into the 21st century with the help of technology. Dubbed “Frost Flowers,” the concept is a metal structure with retractable jetties that, when unfolded, create a pan-shaped surface to host ice skating, markets and exhibitions.
The circular pan will be submerged slightly below the water surface so that it could isolate a thin basin of water to freeze naturally. When not in use, the jetties could be folded away. The proposal has received media attention around the world, from The Daily Mail, The Evening Standard and many other publications.
