Georgia Institute of Technology Campus Plan Wins a SCUP National Award for Excellence
The Georgia Institute of Technology 2023 Comprehensive Campus Plan wins a Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) National Merit Award for Excellence in Planning. This award recognizes achievement in strategic, integrated planning that results in exemplary buildings and grounds and institutional success.
With more than 16.4 million square feet of real estate, Georgia Tech has been a key catalyst in the redevelopment of midtown Atlanta. NBBJ's flexible, dynamic, living plan will continue to evolve with the University over the next 10-20 years, accommodating campus growth through density with a high focus on DEI, community building, sustainability and reduced carbon footprints.
From strategically-located mobility hubs that create a car-free campus center to transforming a parking deck into a lush park that serves as a learning lab and manages stormwater run-off, the comprehensive plan builds flexible innovation into its heart. Driven by a live, real-time GIS tool, the plan is rapidly adaptable, allowing Georgia Tech planners to map key performance indicators for various development scenarios on campus, building a model for not just immediate needs, but one that can flex as the university grows.
Said one juror, “Very thorough, informative and collaborative. The plan builds on a firm foundation established in the past and insight-inspiration for the future and where GT sees itself in that future."
