Massachusetts General Hospital, Cambridge Street
Located next to Beacon Hill on the over 200-year-old campus of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), the Cambridge Street Project requires a sensitive response to the pedestrian experience while expressing the highest aspirations of MGH’s brand and meeting the city of Boston’s goal of 65% carbon emissions reduction by 2050. The resulting design exceeds emissions goals while addressing the growing demand for quality healthcare as well as MGH’s capacity challenges.
An “environment that hosts life,” the 450-bed clinical facility is a welcoming, nurturing space that supports a myriad of clinical functions and brings an additional one million square feet of state-of-the-art in- and outpatient spaces designed to enhance the patient and staff experience.
Features
A key goal of the project is to provide opportunities for retail activity and to energize the neighborhood. Spaces for dietary, pharmacy, clinical and support services, and a cafe and retail space on the ground level further advance the empathy, collaboration, education, innovation and patient focus that differentiates MGH.
