The Art of the Facility Plan

Washington State University
Pullman, WA, USA
Washington State University (WSU) and Eastern Washington University share a 47-acre health sciences campus on the edge of downtown Spokane. In 2013, WSU engaged NBBJ — and an interdisciplinary team of engineering and transportation planning firms — to lead the institutions through a collaborative update of their previous master plan, in order to define the most appropriate, cost-effective development through 2024.
The 10-Year Campus Master Plan Update identified a vision for the campus that projects the academic program growth of both institutions, prioritizes new construction and renovation projects, distributes academic programs on-campus and identifies the direction of future campus development.
NBBJ also engaged the city, neighbors, local businesses and developers to provide input over the course of the 6-month planning effort. University leadership partnered with the city to identify potential redevelopment opportunities near campus, seeking to stimulate a new mixed-use district through private development and public-private partnerships.
