Steel is the skeletal system that makes modern structures strong. But as demand for the product grows — which it has by 75% in the last decade alone — so does the cost and the impact on the environment. According to research, production of a tonne of steel generates almost two tonnes of CO2, much of which is used in China. That's the subject of an article by the South China Morning Post, which highlights the steel savings associated with Hangzhou Stadium in China and how using less steel is good for the planet.
