NBBJ’s scheme for the new Royal Liverpool University Hospital is a winner of the prestigious Architects for Health Design Award for best future project.
The 94,000-square-metre scheme is now under construction, with estimated completion in 2017. The design provides an acute hospital as a contemporary landmark building that reconnects, engages with and enhances its immediate local and extended city context. This gateway building will interact positively with the neighbouring area, contributing to the regeneration of greater Liverpool. The design provides a healing non-institutional environment to enhance the patient, visitor and staff experience. The clear building layout maximises daylight, views, landscaped external areas and healthcare service delivery efficiency.
