While critical to a city's power supply, substations are often eyesores. So much so that building them in neighborhoods can elicit complaints. But not so much in Seattle.
That's where NBBJ has proposed a substation that includes walking trails, a dog park, food truck parking and a learning center. The design, which is featured in Fast Company, also includes artwork from Ned Kahn and firm Led Pencil Studio. If approved by the Seattle City Council, construction of the facility could begin in 2015 and completed by 2017.
