The Boston Globe recently asked prominent local designers and academics to submit urban design recommendations for incoming mayor Marty Walsh. Recognizing that polycentric Boston no longer depends exclusively on its downtown, NBBJ Principal Alex Krieger proposed a new ring of public transit to connect the spokes of the MBTA.
“Our system disorients residents and visitors, and divides our community along social and economic lines,” he said. “This setup may have made sense when downtown was the only place one wished to go, but today there are multiple ‘hubs’ beyond Park Street and Downtown Crossing.”
