NBBJ Wins First Prize in Shantou Urban Design Competition

NBBJ was one of two teams — along with the joint team of KuiperCompagnons and Paul Andreu — selected to win the International Urban Design Competition of the Shantou New East Coastal Area, an 85-square-kilometer new city district in Shantou, Guangdong Province, on reclaimed land where the Hanjiang and Xinjin Rivers meet the South China Sea. NBBJ’s proposal, “One Shantou: Coastal Garden City Today, Tomorrow and the Future,” outlines incremental and organic growth along the coastline, emphasizing sustainable planning by integrating ecological patterns and green corridors within the city fabric.

The winners (and the joint team of KuiperCompagnons and Paul Andreu) were selected by the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) and the Shantou Rural and Urban Planning Bureau. The complete text of the announcement is available through ISOCARP.
